Military Biography of Staff Sergeant Thomas P. Beaulieu

Staff Sergeant Thomas P. Beaulieu was born in Lewiston, Maine. He spent his childhood in Freeport, Maine and graduated in May, 1994 from Edward Little High School in Auburn, Maine. He began his military career in September, 1996 by attending Basic Combat Training at Fort Leonardwood, Missouri. After basic training, he attended Advanced Individual Training at Fort Gordon, Georgia where he earned the Military Occupational Specialty of Radio and COMSEC Device Repairer. (35E, now 94E)

 

Upon completion of AIT in August, 1997, SSG Beaulieu was assigned to 520th Maintenance Company on Camp Humphreys, Korea where he worked as a radio repairman in the Communications and Electronics Shop. In August, 1998 he was transferred to the 659th Maintenance Company, in Fort Bragg, North Carolina where he deployed to Guatemala in support of Joint Task Force Aguila. During his time at Fort Bragg he was cross-trained as a Night Vision Device repairer and promoted to Sergeant. He also served as Squad Leader, Operations NCO, and Unit Prevention Leader as well as many other additional duties.

 

In January, 2003, SSG Beaulieu was assigned to RHQ AFNorth, NATO, Netherlands where he served as a Systems and Network Engineer in several multi-national training exercises including Allied Action 2003 and Allied Warrior 2004. He received extensive training on Cisco routers, BME Promina, NNCCRS and VTC networks and was certified as a COMSEC Custodian; a position meant for individuals two pay grades higher. He also served as an augmentee to the International Military Police and served in multiple memorial and retirement ceremonies.

 

Following Netherlands, in February, 2006 SSG Beaulieu was assigned to Bravo Company, 501st Forward Support Battalion in Ray Barracks, Friedberg, Germany, where he immediately deployed to Tal Afar and AR Ramadi, Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. While deployed, he drove in numerous convoys and served as Squad Leader, Company Electronic Warfare Officer and Radio Section NCOIC and received several command coins and Certificates of Achievement for his actions.

 

Upon redeployment the 501st was deactivated and Ray Barracks was closed. In July, 2007 he was reassigned to Bravo Company, 47th Forward Support Battalion in Baumholder, Germany where he again deployed in April, 2008 to FOB Hammer and later Camp Stryker and Camp Falcon, Iraq. The 47th FSB was redesignated as the 24th Brigade Support Battalion under the 170th Infantry Brigade, and in April, 2011 SSG Beaulieu once again deployed with the 24th BSB, this time to Deh Dadi, Afghanistan, where he served as the Senior Radio & COMSEC Repairer, EMS Shop Foreman, Unit Information Management Officer, Unit Movement Officer and Assistant Unit Prevention Leader. Finally, in August, 2012 he was assigned to Bravo Company, 601st Aviation Support Battalion at Fort Riley, KS where he served as Squad Leader and Commo Section NCOIC. On December 29, 2013 Staff Sergeant Beaulieu completed his 17.5 year Active Duty career and transitioned to the 152nd Component Repair Company, Army National Guard in Augusta, Maine where he served as an electronics technician. Lastly, in December 2015, he was promoted to Staff Sergeant and moved to the Maine Army National Guard Joint Forces Headquarters (JFHQ) Joint Operations Center (JOC) where he served as Security NCO and Communications Specialist. SSG Beaulieu retired from military service on December 29, 2018. In civilian life he lives in Lewiston, Maine and is a marine electrician for General Dynamics, Bath Iron Works, in Bath, Maine, helping to build advanced destroyer-class ships for the US Navy. He also volunteers with a costumed character company at hospitals and childrens events, performing as Spiderman and Captain America.

 

SSG Beaulieu has attended Combat Lifesaver Course, Unit Drug and Alcohol Coordinators Course, Military Leaders Substance Abuse Course, Junior Leadership Course, Primary Leaders Development Course, (redesignated Basic Leaders Course) NIDTS Routing Equipment Admin Course, NNCCRS Admin Course, BME Promina Course, NATO Cryptographic Custodian Course, Counter RCIED Electronic Warfare Specialist Course, Unit Movement Officer 151/TC-AIMS II Operator 154 Course, Airlift Planners Course, Advanced Leadership Course, and the Security Plus Course. He is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Computer Information Technology with a concentration in Cybersecurity through Southern New Hampshire University. He spends his free time learning programming on code.org.

 

SSG Beaulieu’s awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Army Commendation Medal, (3OLC) Navy Unit Commendation Medal, Joint Meritorious Unit Award, Meritorious Unit Commendation, Army Achievement Medal, (3OLC) Good Conduct Medal, (5 knots) Army Reserve Component Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Iraqi Campaign Medal, (4 Stars) Afghanistan Campaign Medal, (2 Stars) Korean Defense Service Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal, NATO Medal, NCO Professional Development Ribbon, (Numeral 2) and Overseas Service Ribbon.

 

SSG Beaulieu is married to the former Airika Martin. He has one daughter from a previous marriage, Charlotte, who was born in 2007 and lives in England, and together he and his wife have a daughter, Genevieve, who was born in 2018 and a son, Philip, who was born in 2020. His short term goal is to complete his degree. His long term goals are to work in the field of Network Forensics as an Information Systems Security Manager and specialize in data recovery and ethical hacking before owning his own business.
